Maples Street Skatepark are holding their annual jam/comp to celebrate concrete and skateboarding/bmxing/rollerblading etc...!

get ya sen down there for some carnage and see if anyone has the nerves to drop in the vert wall...!!! A NBD (never been done) still...!!! Come on notts crew, step up...!

Clifton skatey business

No contracts (tenders) have been sent out yet for the Clifton project according to the City Council. They're in the process of finalising the document so should be going to prospective companies in the next couple. We'll then have to wait for 4 more weeks for the companies to complete the document and then an evaluation of the tenders needs to be carried out. From that 1 company will be chosen to design and build the park in Clifton.

When i know more about timescales and deadlines i'll let ya know but let it be known that they are going to build something it's just later than expected.

Southglade will be ready in 2 weeks...!!!

This is a call to everyone in Notts who is serious about making things happen.

The City Council have told me that they have not included the skatepark in the bid to the Heritage Lottery, so cheers, stoked on that one. They also said that if we wanted to see anything provided for skating / riding then we would have to find the money ourselves...!!! That's fine but when you're talking about £300k - 500k then that's a different matter.

So, please get in touch if you want to join the committee and fight for what you believe in. This is an opportunity to leave a legacy for years in Notts.

We're not asking for a lot of time, just a commitment from you to help with anything from speaking to/emailing people, gathering info to help with funding bids, raising awareness of the cause or doing some fundraising e.g. putting on a gig, video premiere, car washing, whatever to make some money. All proceeds go to the park...!

No concrete on site yet which is a shame but there are some lovely breezeblocks to get you excited...! It's kinda taking shape, i suppose small steps but well keen to go skate it...! It's like waiting for Xmas when you're a kid.

The Mansfield Skate Plaza is also nearing the final visual. We'll post it once we have a copy to get you all hyped on another amazing park in spitting distance of Notts. Completion date is planned for the end of july all being well.

Southglade - Build Week 2

It's a bit hard to see what's going on but use your imagination and also check out the older 3d visual further down the page... looking good but apparently yoots have been getting into the site every night to write Chaz loves Shaz...!!!

Southglade and Clifton...whoowhhooooop

Sorry for the lack (slackness) of blogging but hey, it was summer, we were all skating and then it was winter so we hibernate...!

But since the last time we spoke there have been some developments with the future of skate/bike provision in Nottingham. The Council, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to invest in 2 projects that should be completed by Summer 2009.

Southglade - which is situated in the middle of the Bestwood estate (lovely) is the first to happen. They began construction on the 2nd March 2009 and from the notice on the fence it should take approx. 10 weeks. But - PLEASE DO NOT enter the site prior to opening as the concrete needs to cure properly. If you enter and skate/ride, you could ruin the park for yourself and everyone else in Notts. Just hold tight...! Here's a pic of the proposed design:
Looks pretty sick hey...!!! Can't wait to skate this.

Clifton - not sure what is happening there but from what i know the same company (Maverick) have the contract so i'm sure that they will release some kind of design very soon. Watch this space but i think it's supposed to be more street orientated.

The endless task of talking to the Council about a facility somewhere within the CITY CENTRE is ongoing. But you're more than welcome to send them messages to tell them how much you would like a decent sized park within the city centre somewhere.

That's all for now... Spring is coming.

Would anyone be keen to organise an event in the summer to promote the activities of ‘wewantaskatepark’ in order to raise awareness with the local community by holding some kind of skate/bike jam somewhere in Nottingham…? This could be a typical jam/competition or it could be an en masse silent gathering at market square one Saturday to show support for these activities…? If you’ve got any ideas – let us know…!

Funding

An application for funding the proposed skate park has been sent today. It’s hoped that they will look favourably towards the projects aims, objectives and ethos. For a photo shoot with the evening post… they want to run a story about the potential for a skate facility on the forest rec. The more that get there, the more it will look like there is a need for this…!!!

This is the new space where we can keep everyone updated about happenings in relation to skateparks and Nottingham. Everyone who lives here realises the need for a citywide facility to cater for the needs of young (and older) people in the city and surrounding districts.
